I study natural language meaning as a fundamental component of human linguistic competence. My research develops models of language as both an interpreted formal system and as a species-unique component of human cognition.

I am also interested in how grammar interacts with broader, domain-general aspects of cognition, particularly those involved in how we represent, manipulate and interpret symbols of language.

Soon I will be working on the project Quantifiers at the Interfaces together with my colleague and co-PI Laura Vela-Plo (funded by the Spanish Research Agency; PID2025-175321NA-100). This project combines formal theory with experimental evidence from low-resource languages in order to address both fundamental as well as socially consequential issues.
